- The Best Flooring for Bathrooms
When it comes to updating your bathroom, there are so many things to consider. Are you looking for a tub or a standing shower? What type of sink will maintain a timeless appeal? Even down to the color of the fixtures – the details can help bring your vision to life.
One of the most important aspects when it comes to bathroom design is the floor. That’s because not only do you want something beautiful, you want bathroom flooring that is durable and will stand up to wear and tear, water, and more. So what’s the best type of flooring for your bathroom?
When you think of a bathroom, your first thought likely includes water. You need a floor that will stand up to water long-term, and won’t become damaged at the first leak. Most people opt to go with tile floors in their bathroom, but did you know there are different types of tile you can consider?
Porcelain Tile
Porcelain tiles have been crafted around the world for thousands of years, and they are still considered one of the top choices when it comes to kitchen and bathroom floors. Porcelain tiles
start as extremely fine clay that is then fired at a high temperature to remove all of the moisture. Once fired, they become extremely hard, durable, and resistant to moisture. Out of all types of tile, porcelain is the most durable – it absorbs less water than ceramic tiles, and it’s also more heat resistant. However, it’s also more difficult to install and is typically more expensive. If you’re looking for the ultimate tile to hold up under heavy wear, consider investing in porcelain tiles.
Ceramic Tile
The process of creating ceramic tiles is also an ancient one. The method begins similarly to the porcelain process, but rather than just a fine clay, ceramic tiles are often created from a mix of clay and minerals. Once water is added and it has a mud-like consistency, the mixture is shaped and fired in an extremely hot kiln until it becomes a hard tile. Ceramic tile is typically more affordable than porcelain, and it’s easier to work with. It’s easy to clean, won’t stain, and like porcelain can stand up to water and heavy foot traffic – it’s just not quite as durable as porcelain.
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)
Luxury Vinyl Tile, also often referred to as LVT, is becoming more and more popular. It can be very cost effective, plus there are tons of options as far as flooring design. You can find LVT that looks like ceramic, stone, marble, travertine, and more. Installation is also very easy – no grout needed! LVT is waterproof, durable, easy to clean, slip resistant, and affordable. Just keep in mind, they will likely need to be replaced before ceramic or porcelain tile.
